If you were lucky, and got the only camp site on the lake,the lake was yours. The water was so crystal clear, you could almost see the bottom. The fishing was't bad either. There are plenty of trails and creeks to explore.Including Jefferson creek, which will lead you to lower Elk Lake. My children loved this spot as much as I. There was also a rope swing on the other side of the lake.It was heaven. My youngest daughter traveled back to the lake this summer (2008). She says the lake is destroyed, with water plants and logs,she says the water is no longer clear. This makes me sad, I may just have to plan a trip to see for myself. At Upper Elk Lake all through the summertime months highs are in the 70's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 50's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Upper Elk Lake tend to be in the 30's. Upper Elk Lake gets a large amount of water; through December this area sees the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture. Just       can't get enough of the Olympic Mountains. While you're here at Upper Elk Lake you will meet lots of folks from nearby Shelton, and Upper Elk Lake is nice enough to spend more than a day at, Lena Lake Campground is a nice local campground. There's glorious hiking along the Tubal Cain Mine Trail. There are other locations here than Upper Elk Lake, for example Tenas Lake; get drenched paddling on Hamma Hamma River. Good hiking is available along the Royal Creek Trail,                  and Alderbrook Resort And Spa is a good place to get some rest. And that's not all the things to do here in the Olympic Mountains. If you came to camp Lena Creek Campground is a pleasant site to do that, and after a long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Shelton is a pleasant site to spend a night or two. Upper Elk Lake is located in the Olympic Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. Jefferson Lake is a tremendous lake in the neighborhood of Upper Elk Lake, and some of the water close by flows, like Cabin Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Take some time to explore Hood Canal Ranger District while you're here, and whitewater paddling is nice on Jefferson Creek. You think that's enough? Just getting warmed up.
