It's been about 6yrs. since I was last at upper Elk Lake,It was my most favorite place to camp. If you were lucky, and got the only camp site on the lake,the lake was yours. The water was so crystal clear, you could almost see the bottom. The fishing was't bad either. There are plenty of trails and creeks to explore.Including Jefferson creek, which will lead you to lower Elk Lake. My children loved this spot as much as I. There was also a rope swing on the other side of the lake.It was heaven. My youngest daughter traveled back to the lake this summer (2008). She says the lake is destroyed, with water plants and logs,she says the water is no longer clear. This makes me sad, I may just have to plan a trip to see for myself.

Upper Elk Lake is a great lake in an area with lots of outdoors fun all around. This lake is so wonderful. Get drenched paddling on Hamma Hamma River; dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Motel - Shelton. Just can't get enough of the Olympic Mountains. Upper Elk Lake is not the only location close by, Elk Lake is a close by lake; you'll in all probability meet some folks from Shelton here.

| | Elk Lake is a wet site that gets a good deal of rain; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain, and the driest month is July. Take some time to go to Hood Canal Ranger District since you're here; the Mount Jupiter Trail offers hiking at its best.

place to take a look at close by is Washington Pass. And that's not everything you can do here in the Olympic Mountains. Paddling on Jefferson Creek is so much fun, and after a long day outdoors Alderbrook Resort And Spa is a good
site to spend a night or two. Throughout the long summer days here at Upper Elk Lake, high temperatures usually get into the 70's, and the nighttime is rather colder of course, regularly in the 50's. All through the wintertime this
place gets highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Upper Elk Lake temperatures drop to the 30's.
Take a hike on the Tubal Cain Mine Trail; Upper Elk Lake is a delightful place to camp, Lena Lake Campground
is a delightful place. This lake is so wonderful. If you're here at Upper Elk Lake, you could take a look at Cabin Creek, and Upper Elk Lake is right by the Royal Creek Trail.
