Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Quartz Creek, and the Ridge Trail offers hiking at its best. Any time is a great time at Surprise Lakes if you adore the outdoors. There are some perfect whitewater spots on Lewis River - North Fork, and you'll discover a striking lake called Cold Spring Lake. Be careful coming to the Northern Cascade Range, you might not ever wanna return back home again. Take a little trip to North

| | Fork Meadow Creek while you're here at Surprise Lakes; why not camp at South Campground since you're here at Surprise Lakes. This lake is so wonderful. The high level of rain makes Surprise Lakes a rather wet spot; December is when you get the most snow here, and the driest month of the year is July. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Surprise Lakes; East Crater Trail is a nice local trail, and a splendid place to camp here at Surprise Lakes is Cold | |

Spring Campground. That right there is a lot of entertaining stuff already but it goes on, the Northern Cascade Range has it all. Surprise Lakes is right by the Table Mountain Trail, and you acquire a fine sight of East Twin Butte
from here. This lake is so wonderful. Rodeway Inn Stevenson is a great place to get some rest, and since you're here, you could also stop at picturesque Frog Lake. Surprise Lakes is located in the Northern Cascade Range. During
the summer at Surprise Lakes highs are usually in the 70's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's with temperatures at Surprise Lakes dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.

 | Hi, I have tried to climb this mountain, but the there are very little trail markers and the Columbian write ups on directions were not even close to actuality. I am trying to locate specific directions since there are several different forks. You have all these coordinates but if you don't have or use a GPS they are useless. Alas, you can't help me anymore than what's available out there, which is nothing really.... |

 | 18 miles away Roundtrip Distance 16 miles Elevation Gain 2,620 ft. This peak is trailless, meaning a portion or all of the route up the mountain is via an unmarked trail. For this particular mountain, the typical route is known as a ''herd path'' which is not much more than a worn, but unmarked trail. Some of the herd paths are easy to follow, others are not. In many instances the hiker will travel down a false herd path and eventually have to correct his/her course via backtracking.
