If you are traveling by, why not stop by Lake Standstill. So much fun stuff in the Olympic Mountains, just extraordinary. If you need a location to stay Alderbrook Resort And Spa is a great choice, and not far from Lake Standstill you'll discover Lake Cushman which is a lovely lake. Deer Meadow Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth stopping at. There's so much to do here at Lake Standstill that you need to camp here for a while, Lilliwaup

| | Creek Campground is a good site for that. But wait, there's more to do close to Lake Standstill. Lakes? Sure, Lake May is around here, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Skokomish River - South Fork. This lake is so wonderful. Swamps are attention-grabbing sites and Deer Meadow in close proximity to Lake Standstill is no exception; during your journey here you'll meet some folks from Shelton for sure. at Lake Standstill, you can go for a hike along the Mount Jupiter Trail, and Super 8 Motel - Shelton is a good site to get some rest. And that's not all there is to do here in the Olympic Mountains. Lake Cushman Golf Course is
a delightful golf course close by; there are some glorious whitewater spots on Hamma Hamma River. Lake Standstill is a wet location that gets lots of precipitation; most of the rain falls throughout December, and the driest month
is July. The Olympic Mountains scenery is always beautiful. For the period of the warm months at Lake Standstill highs are generally in the 70's, and the nighttime is somewhat cooler of course, frequently in the 50's. The cold
days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Lake Standstill fall into the 30's. Stay the night at Lake Cushman Resort, and Cushman Dam is not far at all from Lake Standstill.

Upper Elk Lake
 | It's been about 6yrs. since I was last at upper Elk Lake,It was my most favorite place to camp. If you were lucky, and got the only camp site on the lake,the lake was yours. The water was so crystal clear, you could almost see the bottom. The fishing was't bad either. There are plenty of trails and creeks to explore.Including Jefferson creek, which will lead you to lower Elk Lake. My children loved this spot as much as I. There was also a rope swing on the other side of the lake.It was heaven. My youngest daughter traveled back to the lake this summer (2008). She says the lake is destroyed, with water plants and logs,she says the water is no longer clear. This makes me sad, I may just have to plan a trip to see for myself.... |

There is a boat launch which is very small and to the point. :) There is also a park for employees of a certain company which I forget the name of now. This lake is very clean and refreshing. It is great for boats and inter tubing and swimming all the same :) Love this Lake!!...THERE IS A PUBLIC AREA AT THIS PARK,BOATING SWIM AND PICNIC AREA... |
