It's always fun to stop by Smelling Lake. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors fun things the area near Smelling Lake has to offer. This is a magnificent region for folks who like lakes. Chitwood Lake is a lake nearby, and a perfect close by hotel is Best Western Sky Valley Inn, Monroe. Smelling Lake gets lots of water; December is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month is July. There's so much to do here at Smelling Lake that you need to

| | camp here for a while, Turlo Campground is a good spot for that, and if you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Pilchuck River. All through the warm months, highs usually are in the 70's at Smelling Lake. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. On a great day at Smelling Lake you can take a hike along the Finney Peak Trail. This lake is so wonderful. A good spot for whitewater paddling in close proximity to Smelling Lake is Stillaguamish River - South Fork, and if you came
to camp Verlot Campground is a good place to do that. But wait, there's more fun stuff to do in the Northern Cascade Range. After a long day outdoors GuestHouse Inn & Suites M is a brilliant place to spend a night or two, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Gee Point Trail.

 | 11 miles away WE USED TO FISH HUNT AND FOURWHEEL AT THE LAKE...We used to ride dirt bikes in the early 70's up to lake fontal, lotsa fun. I remember the cabins and little store that was up there when I was a kid in the 60's....I used to fish on Lake Fontal but now there isn't any fish.Warning: Lake Fontal Road is a dead end that does not lead to Lake Fontal. The lake is definitely not worth the trouble....We used to ride hores into lake fontal in the late 60's. There used to be a small resort there, complete with cabins, boat rentals,always a huge party opening weekend..(?) big foot sightings in the area...could of been the micro-dot.... |

Evidence of large fresh water muscles are often found on the aging docks of the 1920s & 1930s cottages that are along the lake. In the early morning & evening in the summertime, hot air balloons drift along the edge of the lake just above the treeline between the lake and the Snohomish River.... |
