     Here at Potter Lake you can catch a glimpse of Colville Mountain, and naturally Gillette Creek is a beautiful stream that is worth stopping at. A spree to Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is worthwhile, and a round of golf at nearby Dominion Meadows Golf Course is a perfect way to kill some time. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Comfort Inn Colville is a great site to spend a night or two, and lakes are such peaceful places, why  
   not go to May Lake. Stay the night at East Sullivan - Colville National Forest, and you'll find a lovely lake called Douglass Lake.
At Potter Lake during the summer months highs are in the 80's while overnight lows are regularly in the 40's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Potter Lake. And if you're still looking for more outdoors fun stuff just keep reading. Everybody nearby loves skiing
 
               at 49 Degrees North. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Potter Lake has to offer, you can camp at Noisy Creek - Colville National Forest. Potter Lake is generally a pretty dehydrated location; December is when you get the most snow here, and the driest month of the year is September.
Douglass Falls is a lovely site to go to while you're at Potter Lake, and Garrison Flat is a great site to check out. This lake is so wonderful.

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....

Ski Area History
The town of Chewelah (est. 1883) has long been a gateway for a myriad of outdoor recreational activities especially skiing. Skiing at Chewelah Peak (elev. 5,773 ft) has attracted numerous year-round recreational users since before the Flowery Trail Road was opened to motorized traffic in the early 1930?s. The Colville National Forest formally recognized the winter use of Chewelah Peak in approximately 1935. A permit was issued for development of a site approximately two miles west of the present site of 49ø North Mountain Resort. The completion of Cy?s Hut in 1936 and a rope tow in 1939 firmly established winter recreation on Chewelah Peak. Cy?s Hut burned in 1949. After the completion of the two story Chewelah Mountain Lodge in 1950 and installation of a double chair lift in 1951, the area experienced an increased volume of recreational users and tourists.
