     Paddling on Priest River is so much fun, and why not a little side spree to Deerhorn Creek. Get wet paddling on Sullivan River, and locations like Mountain Meadows are pleasant to have a look at. Summertime highs at Petit Lake ordinarily tend to be in the 80's, and the overnight is somewhat colder of course, typically in the 40's. Throughout the winter the highs are typically in the 30's with temperatures at Petit Lake dipping down into the 10's during winter nights.  
   This lake is so wonderful.
This lake is so wonderful. A scenic lake like Huff Lake in the neighborhood of Petit Lake is a great place to go to, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Chipmunk Rapids National Recreation Trail. All the outdoors exciting stuff in the neighborhood of Petit Lake will keep you coming back persistently. If you need a location to stay Schweitzer Mountain Resort is a pleasant choice; Diamond Peak is clearly visible from
 
               Petit Lake. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Petit Lake has to offer, you can camp at Stagger Inn Campground, and you can have a good hiking adventure along the Hanna Flast Nature Trail.
The annual rain here at Petit Lake is about average; the month with most of the snow is December; the driest of the months is July. Do go to Playa Lake near Petit Lake, it's a pretty lake, and Petit Lake is a perfect spot to visit for more than one day, Petit Lake Campground is a perfect spot to camp nearby.

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....
