     A fine location for whitewater paddling next to Nicholas Lake is Sherman Creek, and do stop by Cedar Creek since you're here at Nicholas Lake. Not much rainfall falls here at Nicholas Lake; the month with most of the snow is December while October is regularly the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. Cuba Canyon is a pleasant place to have a look at nearby, and Nicholas Lake is delightful enough to spend more than a day at, Lake Ellen Campground is a delightful  
   local campground. This lake is so wonderful.
La Fleur Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out; the White Mountain Trail is a magnificent hiking trail nearby. Near Nicholas Lake you discover the Daisy Trail which is a good hiking trail, and Comfort Inn Colville is a perfect spot to get some rest. Any time is a magnificent time at Nicholas Lake if you have a thing about the outdoors. You can catch a glimpse of Staehly Mountain from Nicholas Lake; if
 
               you're here, you could also check out beautiful Lake Ellen.
Summertime at Nicholas Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Nicholas Lake. Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is one of the destinations close to Nicholas Lake that are good to go to, and a pleasant site to camp here at Nicholas Lake is Log Cabin Resort.

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....
