     You'll find a picturesque lake called Buzzard Lake near Nelson Lake, and Bald Mountain is painless to spot from Nelson Lake. Nelson Lake gets very little precipitation; the wettest month of the year is mostly December, that's the one that snows the most, and July is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. A beautiful lake like Benson Lake near Nelson Lake is a delightful spot to visit; camping is available at Deer Lake Resort. For the  
   period of the warm days of summer at Nelson Lake highs are ordinarily in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 40's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Nelson Lake descend into the 10's.
Why not camp at Loon Lake Acres while you're here at Nelson Lake; perfect skiing awaits you at 49 Degrees North. If you need a spot to stay Ramada Limited Suites Spokane is a good choice.

...ic use in late 1972. In 1976, the U.S. Forest Service approved a master plan allowing for continued upgrading and expansion within the existing Special Use Permit. A fourth lift was added in 1980 and new runs to support the lift have continued to attract an increasing number of visitors. In June of 1996 Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was sold to the Eminger Family.
The ski area currently operates a full winter and limited summer schedule. The USFS permit area offers skiing on 905 acres with an additional 320 private acres of base and slope area for a total area of 1,225 acres. There are nearly 60 miles of groomed snowmobile trails adjacent to the ski area courtesy of the Washington State Department of Parks & Recreation. From November to April, five ski lifts serve a 541.7 acre trail network with a lift capacity of 1,888 skiers. Skiers and visitors are provided support in the day lodge on a year-round basis and parking is presently available for approximately 595 vehicles. The Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation under a US Forest Service Special Use Permit operates all facilities...

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....
