    If you are traveling by, why not stop by Mud Lake. During the warm days of summer here at Mud Lake, high temperatures commonly reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. Through the winter highs are frequently in the 20's while Mud Lake nighttime low temperatures through the winter are in the 10's. Get your heart beating on the brilliant whitewater of Sherman Creek. Looking for something near Mud Lake? Nicholas Lake is close  
   at hand; if you came to camp Lake Ellen Campground is a great place to do that.
Don't forget to stop by French Point while you're here at Mud Lake, and Mud Lake is not the only spot nearby, Lake Ellen is a nearby lake. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking along the White Mountain Trail is great fun, and Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is one of the destinations that are nice to take a look at nearby. This is no spot for people who don’t like to enjoy
 
               themselves. Mud Lake is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Canyon Creek Campground is a tremendous local campground, and let's not forget La Fleur Creek which is a stream that you may bump into during your stay.
Mud Lake is pretty dried up mostly; the wettest month of the year is regularly December, that's the one that snows the most; October on the other hand is the driest. After a long day outdoors Comfort Inn Colville is a wonderful place to spend a night or two, and Bald Hill is beautiful and can be made out from here.

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....
