     Get your heart pumping on the delightful whitewater of Priest River, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Mt. Spokane is relatively near. Looking for some flowing water? Try Kent Creek; why not camp at No Name Lake Campground while you're here at Horseshoe Lake. And if that's not sufficient, there's plenty more to do next to Horseshoe Lake. Conger Pond is a nearby lake that you could check out. This lake is so wonderful. If you get bored of Horseshoe Lake,  
   you could also check out close by Conklin Lake, and the top of Furport Hill is easily observed from Horseshoe Lake.
Conklin Meadow is a great place here at Horseshoe Lake, and camping is available at Bear Paw Camp & Retreat Center. High temperatures at Horseshoe Lake all through the warm days of summer are in the 80's while night lows are frequently in the 40's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the
 
               wintertime temperatures at Horseshoe Lake plunge into the 10's. Horseshoe Lake gets a typical amount of precipitation; December is the month that gets the most snow, and July meanwhile is the driest month.

...ate 1970 and continued during the summers of 1971 and 1972. Construction of three lifts, runs and a day lodge was completed and the area first operated for public use in late 1972. In 1976, the U.S. Forest Service approved a master plan allowing for continued upgrading and expansion within the existing Special Use Permit. A fourth lift was added in 1980 and new runs to support the lift have continued to attract an increasing number of visitors. In June of 1996 Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was sold to the Eminger Family.
The ski area currently operates a full winter and limited summer schedule. The USFS permit area offers skiing on 905 acres with an additional 320 private acres of base and slope area for a total area of 1,225 acres. There are nearly 60 miles of groomed snowmobile trails adjacent to the ski area courtesy of the Washington State Department of Parks & Recreation. From November to April, five ski lifts serve a 541.7 acre trail network with a lift capacity of 1,888 skiers. Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....
