What a site this is for outdoors people. Cooper Spur is a tremendous local ski area, and Columbia Gorge Motel is a great spot to get some rest. Just can't get enough of the Central Cascade Range. So much enjoyable stuff in the Central Cascade Range, just impressive. The panorama of Shellrock Mountain from Hidden Lake is pretty, and there are other locations here than Hidden Lake, for example Twin Lakes.
And that's not everything there is to do here in the Central

Cascade Range. The scenery at Berge Reservoir Dam in the vicinity of Hidden Lake is beautiful, and everyone close by loves skiing at Mt. Hood Meadows. All the water falling down from the sky makes Hidden Lake a wet location; through the month of December you get the most rain around here, and July is the month with the least moisture. The Wyeth Trail is a fine hiking trail in the neighborhood of Hidden Lake, and if you need a spot to stay Rodeway Inn Stevenson
               is a perfect choice.
Hidden Lake truly is in the middle of a beautiful outdoors paradise. Why not go to Collins Point also while you're here. Lakes? Sure, Long Lake is nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Hidden Lake is not far at all from Hood River, and get your heart pumping on the great whitewater of Little White Salmon River. Hidden Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Timberlake Campground is a good local campground, and if the weather is wonderful, you can go for a hike along the Pacific Crest Trail - section 23.
Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Hidden Lake. All through the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. During the wintertime highs are regularly in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Hidden Lake. This lake is so wonderful. You can run the rapids of Hood River - West Fork close to Hidden Lake, and a quick trip to Lindsey Creek is absolutely a fine idea. A fine place to camp here at Hidden Lake is Wind Mountain Resort; close by you find the Brush Creek Trail which is a nice hiking trail.
This lake is one of the great places here in the Central Cascade Range.

This peak is trailless, meaning a portion or all of the route up the mountain is via an unmarked trail. For this particular mountain, the typical route is known as a ''herd path'' which is not much more than a worn, but unmarked trail. Some of the herd paths are easy to follow, others are not. In many instances the hiker will travel down a false herd path and eventually have to correct his/her course via backtracking. For these particular mountains, it is imperative that the hiker carry a compass (and know how to use it) and topographic map....

Herman Creek Trail
The Herman Creek Trail was constructed for foot access to the old site of a wartime lookout built to spot ballon bomb sent over by Japan. There were three cabins just past the cliff road and the end of the Herman Creek cut-off trail which statrted at seven and a half mile camp in what was once Cedder Swamp just below Mud Lake....

Little Ashes Lake
12 miles away
Since the previous post was negative, I was skeptical about fishing there. I sent a couple of hours fishing there at one of the few access spots to see how it fished. I was fortunate enough to land a trout about 27 inches long. Not to bad for a couple hours. Caught using a rooster tail spinner. Gotta give it a try....Little Ashes lake is a medium sized spillway from the Columbia River. There is not much public access to the lake. The lake is boundaried on the southwest side by Highway 14. and all the rest is Private property. No way to launch a boat, but I have float tubed it. There are no trails to hike around this lake. You won't want to swim in it since it is columbia river water. The fishing is unproductive as i fished it and never caught a single bass or trout, only sucker fish and perch. My advice is to just enjoy the sight of this lake, but venturing into it is a waste of time....
