Heart Lake gets much water; December is the wettest month with most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture. There's great hiking along the Independence Pass Interpretive Trail, and Black Mountain is clearly visible from Heart Lake. And if that's not sufficient there's plenty more fun stuff to do in the Northern Cascade Range. Camping at Quartz Creek Big Trees Campground is always a splendid experience; drift down the rapids of Muddy River in a kayak.

This lake is so wonderful. Looking for a good tour? Mount Rainier National Park is pretty next to Heart Lake, and lakes are such serene places, why not take a look at Deer Lake. This lake is located in the wonderful Northern Cascade Range. Now, you may imagine that's lots but there's even more amusing stuff to do here in the Northern Cascade Range. Saint Helens Lake is a splendid lake in the vicinity of Heart Lake.

McBride Lake
10 miles away
2/3 of the lake is gone. Kalama River now flows right thru the middle of what used to be the lake. It is amazing to see. The 8100 road is washed out at mile 11 so plan on a 2 mile walk....McBride Lake is no longer in existance. Though I will have this confirmed on July 23, 2008. It is my understanding that during the 2007/2008 winter, a massive land slide occurred which filled the lake. McBride was once a great lake to catch and release fish throughout the day....McBride Lake is no longer in existance. Though I will have this confirmed on July 23, 2008. Indian Hole Campground no longer exists. It was apparently named for the abundance of native artifacts found in the area by early settlers. The camp was owned and maintained by St Regis Paper Co. In later years it fell into disrepair and finally closed in the 1980s....
