It's always fun to stop by Frater Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Lake Thomas Campground is a great local campground; get your pulse rate up on the tremendous whitewater of Sullivan River. If you came for an overnight stay Lake Leo Campground is a great site to camp; the Terry Trail offers hiking at its best. You must without doubt dedicate some time to Granite Meadows if you're here at Frater Lake, and Serendipity Golf Club is a golf course nearby.

| | picturesque scenery and pleasant skiing is what you get at 49 Degrees North, and you can run the rapids of Sullivan River. Frater Lake is a location that is quite dried out ordinarily; most of the snow falls during December, and September is the month with the least moisture. Lake Leo is a nearby lake that you could stop at.
Just can't get enough of Frater Lake. A lake close by is Nile Lake, and Comfort Inn Colville is a fine location to get some rest. High temperatures | |

...>On May 6, 1970, the Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was formed and submitted a bid to develop and operate a ski resort in a basin approximately two miles east of the old area. Development commenced in late 1970 and continued during the summers of 1971 and 1972. Construction of three lifts, runs and a day lodge was completed and the area first operated for public use in late 1972. In 1976, the U.S. Forest Service approved a master plan allowing for continued upgrading and expansion within the existing Special Use Permit. A fourth lift was added in 1980 and new runs to support the lift have continued to attract an increasing number of visitors. In June of 1996 Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was sold to the Eminger Family.
The ski area currently operates a full winter and limited summer schedule. The USFS permit area offers skiing on 905 acres with an additional 320 private acres of base and slope area for a total area of 1,225 acres. Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful.... |
