Stay the night at Hatchery RV Campground; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Cowlitz River - Muddy Fork. So many cool things to do here in the Northern Cascade Range, too splendid to be true. There are glorious locations to look at along the Sheep Lake Trail, and Ohanapecosh Campground is a great campground nearby. This lake is so wonderful. This is a splendid vicinity for people who like lakes. Saint Jacobs Lake
is a lake in the vicinity, and you can never get enough of the delightful skiing at White Pass.
And that's not all you can do here at Fir Lake. You have to definitely have a look at Bald Rock while you're here at Fir Lake, and there are some splendid whitewater spots on Ohanepecosh River. Fir Lake gets a large amount of water; the month with most of the rain is November, and the driest of the months is July. Throughout the months of summer at Fir Lake highs

are commonly in the 70's while nighttime lows are usually in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Fir Lake.
Fir Lake is located in the Northern Cascade Range. You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Crystal Mountain since you're here; don't leave Fir Lake without first going for a hike along the Tatoosh Trail. Man, is there loads of entertaining stuff to do in the Northern Cascade Range. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always take a look at close by Marsh Lakes, and going for a hike on the Backbone Ridge Trail is always a glorious adventure.
This lake is so wonderful. Don't miss out on a journey to Mount Rainier National Park since you're here at Fir Lake.

Roundtrip Distance 13.4 miles

This peak is trailless, meaning a portion or all of the route up the mountain is via an unmarked trail. For this particular mountain, the typical route is known as a ''herd path'' which is not much more than a worn, but unmarked trail. Some of the herd paths are easy to follow, others are not. In many instances the hiker will travel down a false herd path and eventually have to correct his/her course via backtracking. For these particular mountains, it is imperative that the hiker carry a compass (and know how to use it) and topographic map....

White Pass
15 miles away
...>White Pass, located in Washington's breathtaking Cascade Mountains, is a place blessed with abundant snowfall and unspoiled beauty.
It has a wide variety of terrain for all abilities, a ski school with programs for everyone and places to relax and enjoy good times after the day is over.
What really makes it special though, is the friendly, family-oriented atmosphere. It's what makes White Pass a ski and snowboard paradise.
The White Pass experience starts with a bountiful snowfall (350'' in an average season) and with the highest base elevation on the crest of the Washington Cascades.
The resort strikes a perfect balance between pulse quickening steeps, wide open cruisers and gentle learning areas with 33 percent of the terrain geared toward experts, 43 percent toward intermediates and 24 percent toward beginners.
Nothing gets you to the top faster than the Great White Express, Washington's only Doppelmayr high-speed detachable quad. Great White can take you from the base to the summit in five minutes.
White Pass is recognized as one of the greatest mountains to ri...

Granite Lake
17 miles away
Granite Lake has crystal clear water, is surrounded by a very primtive campground. I don't recall how many campsites there are, but I have never been there when there was more than one other party. The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful, well worth the extremely rough road in. 4 wheel drive only. There is an abandoned copper mine in the area, and if you can find the trailhead, (good luck), the scenery is breathtaking. I've been to the mine 3 times. Watch out for bears! There is a ghost town below the copper mine. Very little is left. There are picnic tables, no water and no bathrooms. Come prepared....

Sand Ridge Trail
18 miles away
The hike started out on the dry sandy rocky trail and with a slight grade up. After the 0.75 of a mile and 300 foot gain or so there was a fork; shortly after the you're ?entering the wilderness? sign, trail 1147, or Little Buck Trail is to the right. We haven't been on it, but it is suppose to be about a 0.9 of a mile and end up at the Indian Creek Trailhead and campground. After that fork Sand Ridge Trail, 1104, goes up for about 1 mile, and the foot gain for that mile is about 900 feet. According to the maps and the GPS we were using, the trail begins at about 3400 feet and goes to about 4600 feet. The last mile is like a standard up and down hike until the Shellrock Lake Trail junction, trail 1142 to the left, after that we don't know. Overall, for about the first 2 miles there is a 1200 foot gain in elevation, and then it evens out for a while. However, we had to turn around when we thought we were almost to the Shellrock Lake Trail junction due to a couple feet of snow pack and melt off....
