     49 Degrees North is a very popular ski area in the vicinity, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check out close by Blue Lake. Spring Meadow is a splendid place. Lakes are splendid; Black Lake is a lake that's in close proximity to Fan Lake. Fan Lake gets very little rainfall; December is when you get the most snow here; July is the month with the least moisture.
But wait, there's more to do close to Fan Lake. Mt. Spokane has
 
   great slopes and a friendly staff, and get your heart beating on the splendid whitewater of Spokane River. For the duration of the months of summer here at Fan Lake, high temperatures frequently reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 40's. During the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Fan Lake are in the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Fan Lake that you need to camp  
               here for a while, Jerry's Landing Resort is a delightful place for that, and of course Beaver Creek flows through this vicinity.
Fan Lake is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Spokane Rv Resort is a brilliant local campground, and after a long day outdoors Solar World Estates North is a fine location to spend a night or two. While you're here at Fan Lake you will meet lots of folks from close by Spokane, and in the vicinity of Fan Lake you discover a golf course called Deer Park Golf Club. This lake is so wonderful. Ramada Limited Suites Spokane is a perfect site to get some rest, and you can spend the day on the beach at Sandy Beach.

..., the area experienced an increased volume of recreational users and tourists. Over a period of years, obsolescence of the lift and lack of revenue due to a gradual decline in the condition of the facilities, culminating in closure in early 1968.
On May 6, 1970, the Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was formed and submitted a bid to develop and operate a ski resort in a basin approximately two miles east of the old area. Development commenced in late 1970 and continued during the summers of 1971 and 1972. Construction of three lifts, runs and a day lodge was completed and the area first operated for public use in late 1972. In 1976, the U.S. Forest Service approved a master plan allowing for continued upgrading and expansion within the existing Special Use Permit. A fourth lift was added in 1980 and new runs to support the lift have continued to attract an increasing number of visitors. In June of 1996 Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was sold to the Eminger Family.

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....
