    It's always fun to stop by Lake Ellen. High temperatures at Lake Ellen through the summer months are in the 80's, and the night is a bit chillier of course, frequently in the 40's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Lake Ellen. At Lake Ellen you don’t see much rain; through the month of December you get the most snow around here while October is usually the driest month. A lake close by  
   is Nicholas Lake, and there's great hiking along the Daisy Trail.
But wait, there's more to do near Lake Ellen. The summit of Bald Hill can be seen from Lake Ellen, unsurprisingly you could also visit Mud Lake since you're here; it's not far at all. This lake is so wonderful. If time allows, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is a national park worth stopping at, and good hiking is available along the White Mountain Trail.
If you come at the right
 
               time of year, Sherman Creek offers some good whitewater; why not camp at Lake Ellen Campground since you're here at Lake Ellen. If you came for an overnight stay Canyon Creek Campground is a perfect location to camp, and after a long day outdoors Comfort Inn Colville is a pleasant location to spend a night or two.

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful....
