Do stop by Elk Lake while you're in this part of Washington. Don't leave Elk Lake without first going for a hike along the Mount Jupiter Trail; Lena Creek Campground is a splendid local campground. Now, you may feel that's plenty but there's even more fun things to do here in the Olympic Mountains. You'll meet a lot of folks from Shelton here, and there's tremendous hiking along the Royal Creek Trail. The Olympic Mountains scenery is always beautiful.

spot to camp nearby, and if you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Hamma Hamma River. This lake is so wonderful. There's a forest here at Elk Lake called Hood Canal Ranger District, and
Cabin Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth stopping at. The high level of rain makes Elk Lake a rather wet location; the wettest month of the year is frequently December, that's the one that rains the most, and
July on the other hand is the driest. And if that's not enough there's a lot more fun things to do in the Olympic Mountains. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to close by Upper Elk Lake, and after a
long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Shelton is a glorious location to spend a night or two. The warmest time of the year at Elk Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. Through the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Elk Lake.

Upper Elk Lake
 | It's been about 6yrs. since I was last at upper Elk Lake,It was my most favorite place to camp. If you were lucky, and got the only camp site on the lake,the lake was yours. The water was so crystal clear, you could almost see the bottom. The fishing was't bad either. There are plenty of trails and creeks to explore.Including Jefferson creek, which will lead you to lower Elk Lake. My children loved this spot as much as I. There was also a rope swing on the other side of the lake.It was heaven. My youngest daughter traveled back to the lake this summer (2008). She says the lake is destroyed, with water plants and logs,she says the water is no longer clear. This makes me sad, I may just have to plan a trip to see for myself.... |

Mason Lake
 | 16 miles away This is mainly a private lake for people who have houses on it. There is a boat launch which is very small and to the point. :) There is also a park for employees of a certain company which I forget the name of now. This lake is very clean and refreshing. It is great for boats and inter tubing and swimming all the same :) Love this Lake!!...THERE IS A PUBLIC AREA AT THIS PARK,BOATING SWIM AND PICNIC AREA... |
