Go for a hike on the Minnie Meadows Trail, and what would winter be without some skiing at White Pass. Very pretty scenery and fine skiing is what you get at Crystal Mountain, and if you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Cispus River. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors cool stuff the Northern Cascade

The high level of precipitation makes Conrad Lake a reasonably wet spot; January is when you get the most snow here, and July is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Tieton Meadows Trail is always a great adventure, and one of the principal characteristics of the surroundings | |

White Pass
 | ...day is over. What really makes it special though, is the friendly, family-oriented atmosphere. It's what makes White Pass a ski and snowboard paradise. The White Pass experience starts with a bountiful snowfall (350'' in an average season) and with the highest base elevation on the crest of the Washington Cascades. The resort strikes a perfect balance between pulse quickening steeps, wide open cruisers and gentle learning areas with 33 percent of the terrain geared toward experts, 43 percent toward intermediates and 24 percent toward beginners. Nothing gets you to the top faster than the Great White Express, Washington's only Doppelmayr high-speed detachable quad. Great White can take you from the base to the summit in five minutes. White Pass is recognized as one of the greatest mountains to ride in the Northwest. Natural quarter-pipes, kickers, drops, cornices and chutes challenge even the most experienced boarder. It offers a half-pipe. It's got one of the most scenic and well-maintained cross-country areas in the Northwest. The 18 km of double track, which allow... |
Sand Ridge Trail
 | The hike started out on the dry sandy rocky trail and with a slight grade up. After the 0.75 of a mile and 300 foot gain or so there was a fork; shortly after the you're ?entering the wilderness? sign, trail 1147, or Little Buck Trail is to the right. We haven't been on it, but it is suppose to be about a 0.9 of a mile and end up at the Indian Creek Trailhead and campground. After that fork Sand Ridge Trail, 1104, goes up for about 1 mile, and the foot gain for that mile is about 900 feet. According to the maps and the GPS we were using, the trail begins at about 3400 feet and goes to about 4600 feet. The last mile is like a standard up and down hike until the Shellrock Lake Trail junction, trail 1142 to the left, after that we don't know. Overall, for about the first 2 miles there is a 1200 foot gain in elevation, and then it evens out for a while. However, we had to turn around when we thought we were almost to the Shellrock Lake Trail junction due to a couple feet of snow pack and melt off.... |
Granite Lake
 | 14 miles away Granite Lake has crystal clear water, is surrounded by a very primtive campground. I don't recall how many campsites there are, but I have never been there when there was more than one other party. The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful, well worth the extremely rough road in. 4 wheel drive only. There is an abandoned copper mine in the area, and if you can find the trailhead, (good luck), the scenery is breathtaking. I've been to the mine 3 times. Watch out for bears! There is a ghost town below the copper mine. Very little is left. There are picnic tables, no water and no bathrooms. Come prepared.... |
Rimrock Lake
 | 14 miles away Robin, you can have fires in camp at Rimrock as long as there are no fire bans in the Wenatchee National Forest, you can find out if there is a ban by going to the Naches Ranger Station online or along Highway 12 going through Naches up White Pass....When is the best time to troll for silvers in Rimrock Lake?...Would like to now if we are allowed to have camp fires at rimrock lake.... |
Bench Lake
 | 17 miles away 1 PHOTO This is Bench Lake in the Bird Creek area of Mt. Adams, Washington. This is located on the Yakama Reservation portion of land called Tract D which was Treaty land deeded back to the tribes in 1973. Mt. Adams plays peekaboo here with Little Mt. Adams.
The ranger of this area, Richard Canapo, stays in a trailer up the hill at the entrance by Mirror Lake and is a good source of local information as well as maps of the trails in the area. Permits are as follows:
Entry permit... $5. 00 for a 5 day entry fee
Camping and fishing permits are in addition to entry fees and are:
Camping... $10. 00 per night per space Fishing ... $5. 00 per day or $10. 00 for 5 days
You can have up to 12 pieces of split firewood per night of camping.
I should add that the road in to this lake is a bit rough and rocky, a narrow dirt road. Be cautious watching for other traffic, and I would not take an extremely low car in here. Last trip someone put a hole in a crankcase of a PT Cruiser... This can be avoided by careful driving! ... |
Crystal Mountain
