The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Mt. Spokane, and dry warm beds await you at Residence Inn Spokane East Valley. A pretty lake like Diamond Lake near Chain Lake is a glorious place to pop by, and after a long day outdoors La Quinta Inn And Suites Spokane is a good place to spend a night or two. | | of rainfall that falls at Chain Lake is close to the national average; the month with most of the snow is December, and July on the other hand is the driest. Chain Lake is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Bear Paw Camp & Retreat Center is a pleasant local campground, and there are some good whitewater spots on Spokane River. perfect spot to check out is Campden Gap. All through the summertime months at Chain Lake temperatures are usually in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 40's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's, and nighttime lows through the wintertime for Chain Lake tend to be in the 10's.

Over a period of years, obsolescence of the lift and lack of revenue due to a gradual decline in the condition of the facilities, culminating in closure in early 1968. On May 6, 1970, the Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was formed and submitted a bid to develop and operate a ski resort in a basin approximately two miles east of the old area. Development commenced in late 1970 and continued during the summers of 1971 and 1972. Construction of three lifts, runs and a day lodge was completed and the area first operated for public use in late 1972. In 1976, the U.S. Forest Service approved a master plan allowing for continued upgrading and expansion within the existing Special Use Permit. A fourth lift was added in 1980 and new runs to support the lift have continued to attract an increasing number of visitors. In June of 1996 Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was sold to the Eminger Family. The ski area currently operates a full winter and limited summer schedule.
