Funk Mountain Trail
 | 19 miles away My husband and I, along with my sister and her boyfriend all hiked Funk Mountain Trail in June this year (2009). The trail mentioned here is mostly a cattle grazing area now, but you can hike up the old road to the Lookout, about 1.5 miles. Once there, the view is truly great. Be careful at the Lookout. I don't know how safe it is so use plenty of caution. The hike was fun; we met some friendly ATV'ers on the way up. There was an abundance of butterflies, and hot, yellow sunshine streaming down. This is an excellent hike for beginners, or those with bad knees or new shoes. The vistas are very pleasant, and there are no crowds.
The nearby town of Conconully is another high point for this trip. It's very small and has a contented, peaceful ambience. Conconully Lake doesn't have a great swim beach, but it's enjoyable for a canoe or kayak paddle on a warm day. ... |
