Little Ashes Lake
Since the previous post was negative, I was skeptical about fishing there. I sent a couple of hours fishing there at one of the few access spots to see how it fished. I was fortunate enough to land a trout about 27 inches long. Not to bad for a couple hours. Caught using a rooster tail spinner. Gotta give it a try....Little Ashes lake is a medium sized spillway from the Columbia River. There is not much public access to the lake. The lake is boundaried on the southwest side by Highway 14. and all the rest is Private property. No way to launch a boat, but I have float tubed it. There are no trails to hike around this lake. You won't want to swim in it since it is columbia river water. The fishing is unproductive as i fished it and never caught a single bass or trout, only sucker fish and perch. My advice is to just enjoy the sight of this lake, but venturing into it is a waste of time....

Wind River
Hello,

Anybody who puts-in where the road map link on the webpage indicates and expects to find class IV-V water is going to be disappointed. The put-in is on the right bank slightly downstream of where the map shows the take-out (basically, at Stabler) and the take-out is on the right bank a half-mile or so above High Bridge (where the red line crosses the river on the map).

Regards,
Will...
Hello,

I run this section of the Wind regularly and I have never heard anybody refer to it as Ranger Station Close to Stabler to High Bridge. It's common names are Stabler to High Bridge and the Upper Wind. The putin is much closer to Stabler than to the Ranger Station near Stabler (which is actually closer to the put-in on Trout Creek).

Regards,
Will...

Have you been to the Bighorn campground site???While this is a beautiful pack-in, primitive site, it doesn't fit with your description. Before camping, take a hike on Nat.
