Many people like to go to Lake Butte. This lake is so wonderful. Near Lake Butte you stumble on the Laws Trail which is a good hiking trail; Louis Spring is a pleasant local attraction. Just can't get enough of Lake Butte. Nearby lakes? Sure, Ward Lake is in the neighborhood of Lake Butte, and you can go for a hike on the Empire Drive Trail. There's so much to do here at Lake Butte that you need to camp here for a while, Fisherman's Cove Resort is a delightful

Summertime highs at Lake Butte mostly tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 40's. Throughout the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 20's, and night lows through the wintertime for Lake Butte tend to be in the 10's. Fishing at Curlew Lake that is open year round brings many campers to Republic. Trout, Bass and Tiger Muskie live in these cold waters. Many of the fishermen catch their limit (5) of rainblow trout within an hour. Public boat launch (free) is just down the road from the Campground.
There are many scenic routes in the area too. A motorcyclists dream. Ride for hours, little to no traffic, sometimes called ''God's Country'', with some windy picturesque sights. Many places to stop, take breaks, picnic lunch and sights see along the Highland Historic Loop Drive.

Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful.... |
