A magnificent spot to camp here at Bailey Lake is Spokane Rv Resort, and the snow is glorious at 49 Degrees North. I don't want to stop, cause I'm havin' a fine time here at Bailey Lake. Dead Mans Lake is a nearby lake that you could visit, and Spokane River has a fine whitewater paddling spot nearby. While you're here at Bailey Lake, you could also stop by beautiful Little Trout Lake, and whitewater paddling is great on Hangman Creek. Not much precipitation falls

This lake is so wonderful. During your trip to Bailey Lake you'll meet some people from Spokane for sure. During the months of summer at Bailey Lake highs are regularly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 40's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's with temperatures at Bailey Lake dipping down into the 10's all through winter | |

...er, nearly all precipitation in the vicinity of the ski area falls as snow. In the town of Chewelah and the surrounding lower elevations west of Flowery Trial Pass the snow pack is limited; however, in the towns of Usk and Cusick, and the surrounding lower elevations east of Flowery Trail Pass, the snow pack is greater than the west side. Snow begins to accumulate in November and usually reaches its greatest depth and water content sometime during March.
Ski Area History
The town of Chewelah (est. 1883) has long been a gateway for a myriad of outdoor recreational activities especially skiing. Skiing at Chewelah Peak (elev. 5,773 ft) has attracted numerous year-round recreational users since before the Flowery Trail Road was opened to motorized traffic in the early 1930?s. The Colville National Forest formally recognized the winter use of Chewelah Peak in approximately 1935. A permit was issued for development of a site approximately two miles west of the present site of 49ø North Mountain Resort. Interesting to see this area via google satelitte...in 1892 my paternal grandfather purchased 95.5 acres along the river at the China Bend area from the govt. It must have been repurchased by the Bureau of Reclamation when the Dam was being considered. Glad it's still beautiful.... |
