Dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Motel - Derby/Newport Area, and camping at Char- BO Campground is always a delightful experience. Nearby lakes? Sure, Lake Derby is near Lake Salem, and there is a fine hiking trail nearby called the Mount Pisgah East Trail. This lake is so wonderful. A round of golf at nearby Newport Country Club is a good way to kill some time, and nothing beats kicking back       at Balm of Gilead Beach. At Lake Salem you can make out Bates Hill. No way I can stop, cause I'm havin' a glorious time here at Lake Salem. The Pisgah Trail is a great hiking trail near Lake Salem; Lake Salem is perfect enough to spend more than a day at, Chargo Campground is a perfect local campground. There's whitewater on Barton River for all you adrenaline people; going for a hike on the Mount Pisgah Trail is always a brilliant adventure. Summertime                  brings highs in the 70's to Lake Salem. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Lake Salem are in the 0's. Coche Brook is a scenic stream that is worth taking a look at, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Clyde River. An average amount of rain falls at Lake Salem; August is when you get the most rain here; February is the month with the least moisture.
