    If you are traveling by, why not stop by Roach Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Looking for something right next door to Roach Pond? Austin Pond is nearby; if you need a spot to stay The Middlebury Inn is a great choice. Camping is available at Half Moon State Park Campground, and there are wonderful spots to explore along the Bomoseen Hiking Loop. This lake is so wonderful. There's whitewater on Poultney River for all you adrenaline rush seekers, and if you  
   want to explore some interesting stuff, explore Barber Ledge.
You could also go to Breese Pond if you're here at Roach Pond; it's nearby, and why not spend some time golfing at a nearby golf course like Prospect Bay Country Club. Going for a hike on the Half Moon Pond Trail is always a great adventure, and dry warm beds await you at Courtyard By Marriott Middlebury. Roach Pond is in close proximity to Austin Pond Dam which is a striking place beyond doubt
 
               worth stopping at, and why not take a little trip to Giddings Brook if you're here.
During your visit to Roach Pond you'll meet some folks from Rutland for sure; why not camp at Big D Campground since you're here at Roach Pond. Man, is there a heap of entertaining things to do right next door to Roach Pond. There are some great whitewater spots on Otter Creek, and there is a fine hiking trail nearby called the Daniel Coffey Memorial Trial. If only every location had this much outdoors fun things, what a great world it would be.
Throughout the months of summer, highs generally are in the 80's at Roach Pond, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Roach Pond. From a rain point of view Roach Pond is a quite typical location; through August this area sees the most rain; the driest month of the year is February.

Country Village Campground has 41 spacious sites that can accommodate small tents all the way up to the largest of campers. The bath house is clean and spacious with hot showers, and it is located right in the middle of the campground for easy access to all sites.
A trip to Country Village Campground wouldn’t be complete without a visit to nearby Branbury State Park; nearby you hit upon the Silver Lake Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail. Camping in Vermont is such a fun thing to do. All the nice local attractions in close proximity and the nice variety of outdoors recreation will certainly have you coming back persistently.

Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by nearby Fern Lake which is small and pristine.

White Rocks,great trail 0.8 miles up. Trails interstect with AT, check map before you go up. Two water falls on the left. First one could be risky to see always a wet gorge. Second is off the AT a short way. At the top is a rock art garden where a sign for White Rocks cliff trail 0.2 to overlook, great view west north and south. The peak was quite higher at one time in the past. Looking down over the cliff edge are three seperate rock falls which is the old peak....

Easy going trail from Mt Tabor to Rocky Pond, a 4 mile round trip, 1 1/2 to 2 hour hike. The hike is well worth seeing this breath taking pond. Very secluded & peaceful with tent sites and one or two shelters. Over night stays are 5.00 per person, per night. If you love 'roughing it' camping, this is a great place to go. I am enclosing a picture i took on June 19th 2007....

South of Rutland rt 7 south to rt 140 east. Entrance is not easily seen. A up hill right off 140 then a quick left up hill, and a quick right again. Just a little sign. Before the right turn on 140 you will see white rocks used as drainage. the turn is shortly there after. Rocky road. Hope this helps....
