The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Mud Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is splendid on Joe's Brook River, and after a long day outdoors Fairbanks Inn is a good place to spend a night or two. Mud Pond is a beautiful lake in the Green Mountains. Do take a look       at Shadow Lake Dam while you're here at Mud Pond; a splendid close by hotel is Super 8 Motel - Derby/Newport Area. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun things in the Green Mountains. The top of Black Hills is easily observed from Mud Pond, and there's some flowing water nearby, Mud Pond Brook is a stream you can go to while you're here. This lake is so wonderful. The South Shore Hiking Trail is a delightful hiking trail in close proximity                  to Mud Pond. There's so much to do here at Mud Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Belview Campground is a wonderful place for that. And if that's not enough, there's plenty more to do near Mud Pond. If only every spot had this much outdoors cool stuff, what a great planet it would be. What would winter be without some skiing at Lyndon Outing Club, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Herbert Hawkes Hiking Trail. That right there is loads of fun stuff already but it goes on, the Green Mountains has it all. Lakes are delightful; Runaway Pond is a lake that's close to Mud Pond, and you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Burke Mountain since you're here. If you don't mind getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Barton River, and not far from Mud Pond you'll hit upon Horse Pond which is a striking lake. From a precipitation point of view Mud Pond is a pretty normal site; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
