If you like skiing, you're in luck; Whaleback is in close proximity to Mud Pond, and there's whitewater on Ompompanoosuc River for all you adrenaline kick people. This lake is so wonderful. You don't have to go far from Mud Pond to enjoy Thetford Municipal Forest, and Forsythe Pond Dam is an out of the ordinary thing to check out. Swamps can be such exciting places, have a look at Gillette Swamp while you're here at Mud Pond, and Rest n' Nest Campground is a perfect local campground. All the outdoors entertaining things in the Green Mountains will keep you coming back many times. Take a hike on the Grimes Hill Road, and the summit of Childs Hill can be distinguished from Mud Pond. This lake is so wonderful.
