    Beautiful Long Pond has much to offer visitors. Burlington-Days Inn Colchester is a nice site to get some rest, and Diamond Hill is gorgeous and can be distinguished from here. The yearly rain here at Long Pond is about average; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is January. If you're here at Long Pond, do take a trip to Beans Point, and you're probably hooked on lakes, Round Pond is one of those nearby.
If you need a
 
   place to stay Quality Inn is a good choice, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Long Pond; Island Farm Nature Trail is a tremendous local trail. The warmest time of the year at Long Pond comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for Long Pond. There's just no way anybody can get bored here at Long Pond. Get soaked paddling on Mill Brook,  
               and Long Pond is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Homestead Campgrounds is a tremendous local campground.
Be careful coming to Long Pond, you might not ever wanna return home again. What would winter be without some skiing at Cochran Ski Center. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes are glorious; Round Pond is a lake that's close to Long Pond, and there are plenty of folks from Burlington-South Burlington here. There's pleasant hiking along the Southern Tip Trail, and a delightful place to camp here at Long Pond is Lone Pine Campsites.
This lake is so wonderful. The West Shore Trail offers hiking at its best, and if you're here you can play some golf at Arrowhead Golf Course. It's a perfect idea to go to Stone Bridge Brook, it's in the vicinity of Long Pond, and whitewater paddling is magnificent on Browns River.

...was at flood stage (over Pettingill Rd. about five miles upstream of the put in). Putting in at the Rte. 128 bridge in Westford, at this level you find about 1/4 mile of class II water until you reach the covered bridge in Westford. There is a diagonal hole just below the covered bridge which is right above a partially washed out dam. We ran the 8ft dam on the far right successfully and continued down river. The rapids below here at this level are good class III+ in places mixed with lots of fast moving flat water. There are 3 or 4 somewhat technical ledge drops ranging in height from 3ft to 6ft. After scouting, we ran everything. Once we hit the Lamoille, which was running around 5000cfs, it was big water class II and III down to Georgia. The ledge drop and run out rapid above the High Bridge were HUGE. If the air wasn't so cold and the wind blowing so hard, we could have used the big recirculating edies there to surf all afternoon. Shady Oaks is 1/2 mile to Lake Champlain City Beach and only 2 miles to a boat launce but is not directly on any body of water....
This campground is now called Shady Oaks RV Park. We like staying at this campground and do so everytime we go to the Plattsburgh area. It is a very quite place and the owners a very nice people. This place is well kept and clean. Close to all resorts for sight seeing. We camp there every summer....

Salmon River

More strainers in this river than I have ever seen, anywhere. Upper part to 87 could be a great run at about 2 1/2 feet(guage on bridge on salmon river rd.) Again, have to be aware of strainers, most are river wide. Dont bother with 87 east to lake champlain, mostly flat with over twenty beaver dams. Lots of leaches....
