    It's always fun to stop by Fortier Pond. If you're stopping by Fortier Pond from Rutland, you won't be the only one. This lake is so wonderful. Fortier Pond is right by the Half Moon Pond Trail; after a long day outdoors The Middlebury Inn is a perfect location to spend a night or two. Stay the night at Half Moon State Park Campground, and a scenic lake like Sunrise Lake is a delightful location to stop at.

   get some rest, and hiking along the Glen Lake Trail is nice fun. This lake is so wonderful. On a beautiful day you get a view of Conkey Hill from Fortier Pond; brilliant water scenery is available at Sunrise Lake Dam right next door to Fortier Pond. From a precipitation point of view Fortier Pond is a quite common place; during August this area sees the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.

               Johnson Pond right next door to Fortier Pond. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Fortier Pond has to offer, you can camp at Big D Campground. You need to stop at Arnolds Ledge while you're here at Fortier Pond; get your heart pumping on the delightful whitewater of Poultney River. Through the summertime months at Fortier Pond highs are commonly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's with temperatures at Fortier Pond dipping down into the 0's throughout winter nights.
Just can't get enough of Fortier Pond. There's whitewater on Otter Creek for all you thrill seekers; why not take a refreshing hike along the Daniel Coffey Memorial Trial.

A trip to Country Village Campground wouldn’t be complete without a visit to nearby Branbury State Park; nearby you hit upon the Silver Lake Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail. Camping in Vermont is such a fun thing to do. All the nice local attractions in close proximity and the nice variety of outdoors recreation will certainly have you coming back persistently.

Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by nearby Fern Lake which is small and pristine.
At this campground you will always have a delightful time. Getting to Neshobe River from Country Village Campground is simple, and Middlebury River has a great whitewater paddling spot nearby.

Outdoor recreation is bountiful, some of the enjoyable stuff you can do is swimming, playing golf at Neshobe Golf Club, whitewater paddling, hiking, and fishing, so you won’t run out of things to do.

White Rocks,great trail 0.8 miles up. Trails interstect with AT, check map before you go up. Two water falls on the left. First one could be risky to see always a wet gorge. Second is off the AT a short way. At the top is a rock art garden where a sign for White Rocks cliff trail 0.2 to overlook, great view west north and south. The peak was quite higher at one time in the past. Looking down over the cliff edge are three seperate rock falls which is the old peak....

Easy going trail from Mt Tabor to Rocky Pond, a 4 mile round trip, 1 1/2 to 2 hour hike. The hike is well worth seeing this breath taking pond. Very secluded & peaceful with tent sites and one or two shelters. Over night stays are 5.00 per person, per night. If you love 'roughing it' camping, this is a great place to go. I am enclosing a picture i took on June 19th 2007....
