A tremendous nearby hotel is Super 8 Motel - Derby/Newport Area, and you can go for a hike on the Mount Pisgah East Trail. Good hiking is available along the Pisgah Trail, and Duck Pond is fine enough to spend more than a day at, Char-Bo Campground is a fine local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Clyde River has a delightful whitewater paddling spot close by, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at close by Burke Mountain. Nearby lakes? I am suprised that I am being ask to be the first person to give input on this beautiful lake that spans northern VT into Canada. It is a lake that talks to you, as far as my opinion goes. I lived in Newport,Newport Center (Bear Mountain) and Noth Troy when I was bewtween the ages of 9-13. I am now 42!
