    If you like lakes and you're in this part of Vermont you can check out Choate Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Sunrise Lake Dam has great water scenery and it's close to Choate Pond, and Bomoseen State Park Campground is a good local campground. Conway Swamp is a swamp right next door to Choate Pond; if you're here, you could also take a look at striking Spruce Pond. Be careful coming to Choate Pond, you might not ever want to return home again.
If you want
 
   to go to some attention-grabbing stuff, go to Arnolds Ledge, and why not camp at Half Moon State Park Campground while you're here at Choate Pond. There's just no way someone can get bored here at Choate Pond. You can run the rapids of Otter Creek close to Choate Pond, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Ticonderoga Inn & Suites is a good place to spend a night or two. An average amount of precipitation falls at Choate Pond; August is the month that gets  
               the most rain while February is frequently the driest month.
The summit of Bishop Hill can be observed from Choate Pond, and you can have a great hiking adventure along the Glen Lake Trail. All through the warm months at Choate Pond highs are frequently in the 80's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 20's; overnight lows at Choate Pond through the wintertime usually dip into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. You're sure to bump into some wonderful folks from Rutland here, and a good spot for whitewater paddling is Poultney River.
Hiking along the Half Moon Pond Trail is wonderful fun; dry warm beds await you at Ticonderoga - Super 8 Motel. Do pop by Mud Pond close to Choate Pond, it's a picturesque lake, and do take a hike on the Daniel Coffey Memorial Trial.

A trip to Country Village Campground wouldn’t be complete without a visit to nearby Branbury State Park; nearby you hit upon the Silver Lake Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail. Camping in Vermont is such a fun thing to do. All the nice local attractions in close proximity and the nice variety of outdoors recreation will certainly have you coming back persistently.

Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by nearby Fern Lake which is small and pristine.

White Rocks,great trail 0.8 miles up. Trails interstect with AT, check map before you go up. Two water falls on the left. First one could be risky to see always a wet gorge. Second is off the AT a short way. At the top is a rock art garden where a sign for White Rocks cliff trail 0.2 to overlook, great view west north and south. The peak was quite higher at one time in the past. Looking down over the cliff edge are three seperate rock falls which is the old peak....

Easy going trail from Mt Tabor to Rocky Pond, a 4 mile round trip, 1 1/2 to 2 hour hike. The hike is well worth seeing this breath taking pond. Very secluded & peaceful with tent sites and one or two shelters. Over night stays are 5.00 per person, per night. If you love 'roughing it' camping, this is a great place to go. I am enclosing a picture i took on June 19th 2007....
