Browns River
 | 16 miles away ...ut in). Putting in at the Rte. 128 bridge in Westford, at this level you find about 1/4 mile of class II water until you reach the covered bridge in Westford. There is a diagonal hole just below the covered bridge which is right above a partially washed out dam. We ran the 8ft dam on the far right successfully and continued down river. The rapids below here at this level are good class III+ in places mixed with lots of fast moving flat water. There are 3 or 4 somewhat technical ledge drops ranging in height from 3ft to 6ft. After scouting, we ran everything. Once we hit the Lamoille, which was running around 5000cfs, it was big water class II and III down to Georgia. The ledge drop and run out rapid above the High Bridge were HUGE. If the air wasn't so cold and the wind blowing so hard, we could have used the big recirculating edies there to surf all afternoon. A very long 3 to 5ft wave train finished off the day before a 1/4 mile flat water paddle to the take out at the fishing access on Rte. 104A. This very sedate little run seems to really come alive at this very high level. Runni... |

Jay Peak
 | 24 miles away 5 PHOTOS Jay Peak is 385 acres and 2,153 vertical feet of glades, bumps, groomers, and parks. Eight lifts, including Vermont's only aerial tramway, access 76 trails, 4 terrain parks for all abilities, and on average, 376 inches of natural snow every season. Jay Peak is well known for its glades and extreme chutes but there's more to the mountain than just expert terrain ? like The Zone, Jay Peak's learning area, which includes 4 lifts that access 11 trails and introductory glades.... Hmm? Jay Peak seems like it has two peaks, shouldn't it be called Jay Peaks? But other than the confusing name I have no complaints. Lots of good runs.... |
Bolton Valley
 | 27 miles away 5 PHOTOS Rider over BV... Woods deep... Hotel... Mike snow cloud... ...ng. Improvements including replacement of 5,500ft of 4'' snowmaking pipe with 6'' pipe to allow us to pump more water through the system. We have also added two SMI Pole Cat fan guns which will be mounted in the terrain park, giving us the capacity to blow a tremendous amount of snow in the park.
We have also added a new Prinoth Bison Groomer to our grooming fleet. The addition puts our total number of groomers at five and will allow us to provide a better quality skiing and riding surface over more of the mountain more often.
Guests will also notice a new look in the main lodge's cafeteria. Bolton Valley has invested in new tables and seating to provide more comfort for those taking a break for a cup of cocoa or having a bite to eat.
The rental fleet has been upgraded with several new skis from Rossignol and boards from Burton.
For the 2009-2010 season we are further improving our green initiative by adding a Wind Turbine to the top of the Vista Quad. This Wind Turbine will offset a proportion of our energy consumption.
