    Big Mud Pond is a great lake in an area with lots of outdoors fun all around. So much cool stuff near Big Mud Pond, absolutely mind-boggling. Take a side visit to Three Shanties Brook, and close by you find the Staples Trail which is a great hiking trail. Yep, outdoors cool things to do are truly bountiful here at Big Mud Pond. Red Roof Inn Rutland - Killington is a fine place to get some rest; a great site for whitewater paddling is Big Branch. Life's too  
   short to enjoy all the fun stuff in the Green Mountains. The Old Job Trail is a pleasant hiking trail in the vicinity of Big Mud Pond, and if you get bored of Big Mud Pond you could also go to nearby Long Hole.
All through the summertime at Big Mud Pond highs are typically in the 80's while nighttime lows are generally in the 50's. All through the winter highs are generally in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Big Mud Pond are in the 0's. Really
 
               wonderful skiing awaits you at Snow Valley, and the sight of picturesque Buckball Peak is great. Big Mud Pond is a pretty wet place commonly with a lot of rainfall; August is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
In case you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Mill River, and going for a hike on the Jones Brook Trail is always a pleasant adventure. This lake is one of the great places here in the Green Mountains. So much enjoyable stuff in the Green Mountains, just phenomenal. Camping is available at Campground A; if you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Rutland.
Swamps don’t sound that splendid but Elbow Swamp in the vicinity of Big Mud Pond is reasonably splendid, and Little Mud Pond is a nearby lake that you could check out. This lake is so wonderful. If you came for an overnight stay Otter Creek Campground is a good place to camp, and Swale Meadow is a great place. And that's not all there is to do here in the Green Mountains.
This lake is so wonderful. You can never get enough of the perfect skiing at Bromley, and if you need a spot to stay Inns at the Equinox is a tremendous choice.

Easy going trail from Mt Tabor to Rocky Pond, a 4 mile round trip, 1 1/2 to 2 hour hike. The hike is well worth seeing this breath taking pond. Very secluded & peaceful with tent sites and one or two shelters. Over night stays are 5.00 per person, per night. If you love 'roughing it' camping, this is a great place to go. I am enclosing a picture i took on June 19th 2007....
