This is a popular spot for folks from Staunton-Waynesboro, and Smith Lake is right by the Wildcat Ridge Trail. This lake is so wonderful. The slopes of Wintergreen are so inviting noone can resist, and the Sawmill Ridge Trail offers hiking at its best. Smith Lake is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Smith Lake beyond doubt is in the middle of a pretty outdoors paradise. A fine nearby       hotel is Best Western Waynesboro Inn & Suites Conf Ctr; float down the rapids of Back Creek - South River Tributary in a kayak. There's no way somebody can get bored here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Smith Dam is not far at all from Smith Lake; you don't have to go far to enjoy Elm Spring Orchard. This lake is so wonderful. Gotta ski! Massanutten is a splendid location to do that, and Waynesboro-Days Inn is a nice spot to get some rest. There's perfect hiking                  along the Turkey Pen Ridge Trail, and camping at KOA Campgrounds is always a great experience. An average amount of rainfall falls at Smith Lake; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. So many fun things to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains, not sufficient time. If you come at the right time of year, South River offers some great whitewater, and if you came to camp Waynesboro North 340 Campground is a good place to do that. At Smith Lake during the summer months highs are in the 80's, and the overnight is slightly colder of course, ordinarily in the 60's.
