And if that's not sufficient there's heaps more fun stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sheppard Pond is a good site to visit for more than one day, Candy Hill Campground is a good site to camp nearby, and TownePlace Suites Winchester is a great place to get some rest. Just can't get enough of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Near Sheppard Pond you discover the Rattlesnake Trail which is a nice hiking trail, and dry warm beds await       you at Shoney's Inn Winchester. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Dickey Hill Trail is always a pleasant adventure, and if you're a golfer then a great nearby course is Carper's Valley Golf Club. Lakeside Lake is a nearby lake that you could stop at; there's some out of the ordinary stuff to see at Sheppard Dam close to Sheppard Pond. You assume that's enough? Just getting warmed up. There is a delightful hiking trail in close proximity                  to Sheppard Pond called the Belle Meade Linden Trail, and Shenandoah River is a pleasant whitewater spot nearby. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Sheppard Pond has to offer, you can camp at Front Royal Koa Kampground, and some of the water nearby flows, like Abrams Creek. All through the summertime months at Sheppard Pond highs are regularly in the 80's. Through the moonlight hours it's typically in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are regularly in the 30's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Sheppard Pond temperatures fall to the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Sheppard Pond, you could also explore picturesque Izaak Walton Pond, and if you don’t have a problem getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Back Creek - Potomac Tributary. Sheppard Pond is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
