     There are fine sites to look at along the Mills Creek Trail. Lakes? Sure, Jones Pond is close by. If you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Buffalo River; camping at Lake Nelson Campground is always a good experience. A good place for whitewater paddling near Saunders Pond is Tye River, and not far from Saunders Pond you'll find Stevens Lake which is a picturesque lake. Going for a hike on the White Rock Gap Trail is  
   always a good adventure; beautiful scenery and great skiing is what you acquire at Wintergreen.
This lake is so wonderful. Go for a hike on the Tolley Gap Trail, and Hubbard Hill can be spotted from Saunders Pond. At Saunders Pond through the days of summer highs are in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; night lows during the winter for Saunders Pond tend to be in the 10's. This lake
 
               is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Wintergreen Resort, and if you need a place to stay Knights Inn Madison Heights Lynchburg is a nice choice.
This is no place for people who don’t like to have a good time. Allen Creek is a striking stream that is worth stopping at, and Saunders Pond is perfect enough to spend more than a day at, Piney River Campground is a perfect local campground. A large amount of rainfall falls at Saunders Pond; most of the rain falls throughout October while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.

Well me and my family have been going to Sharando Lake ever since I was born and we havn't gone anywhere else I love sherando and I can't wait to go back for another memorable camping weekend!...As close to perfect a camping experience as you can get: 1) Private, secluded, spacious campsites 2)access to flush toilets and showers, 3) a breathtakingly beautiful lake/swim area 4)hiking trails. WORD OF CAUTION: in-season, all sites are snapped up by Thurday noon for the weekend. Come on Sunday for best selection or before Thursday if you want a shot at a campsite. They don't take reservations (as of 8/2006) Wish they would so everyone could have a shot at a weekend camping trip there, not just the locals who can zip in and set a few camping chairs on the sites on Thursday to claim it for the weekend. ...
