A lovely lake like Sounders Pond near Saunders Pond is a glorious place to explore; Mitchell's Point Marina is a good local campground. A good close by hotel is Mariners Landing at Smith Mountain Lake; obviously, all our national parks are pleasant sites to check out and Booker T Washington National Monument is no exception. This lake is so wonderful. The Spec       Mines Trail is a pleasant hiking trail in the vicinity of Saunders Pond, and after a long day outdoors Bedford Days Inn is a good location to spend a night or two. So much entertaining stuff to do here at Saunders Pond, too good to be true. If you crave a little side trip, try Dark Hollow, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Flat Top Mountain Trail. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Saunders Pond, and the overnight is slightly chillier                  of course, usually in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and night lows through the wintertime for Saunders Pond tend to be in the 20's. Saunders Pond is a good place of normal rainfall; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain while January is commonly the driest month. If you're interested in hydro structures, you can take a look at Saunders Pond Dam, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Fallingwater Trail.
