Why not stop by Rural Retreat Lake if you're passing through these parts. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking along the Little Dry Run Trail is delightful fun, and Rural Retreat Lake is a tremendous location to visit for more than one day, Dear Trail Park Campground is a tremendous location to camp nearby. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Crigger Creek Trail; Comfort Inn Atkins is a great spot to get some rest. Whitewater paddling is great on New River.

| | Pine Glade is a splendid site to stretch your legs a bit; in case you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on New River. All through the summer at Rural Retreat Lake temperatures are mostly in the 70's. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 50's. Lake, you might not ever want to go back home again. Dark Horse Hollow Campground is a nice local campground, and glorious water scenery is available at Rural Retreat Dam in close proximity to Rural Retreat Lake.
Rural Retreat
Lake generally gets a good deal of rain; all through July this area sees the most rain; January is the month with the least moisture. Rural Retreat Lake is right by the Virginia Highland Trail; dry warm beds await you at Comfort Inn Wytheville.
