    Do stop by Otter Lake while you're in this part of Virginia. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Shady Mountain Campground if you're here at Otter Lake. Lakes are delightful; Big Island Reservoir is a lake that's right next door to Otter Lake. Going for a hike on the Piney Ridge Trail is always a good adventure; the summit of Hamilton Knob can be distinguished from Otter Lake. Otter Lake typically gets a great deal of rainfall; July is the month that  
   gets the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest.
If you come at the right time of year, Pedlar River offers some pleasant whitewater; after a long day outdoors Natural Bridge Hotel is a splendid location to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. There are good spots to explore along the Rocky Row Trail, and get yourself into a kayak and hit James River. Near Otter Lake you come across the Cashaw Creek Trail which is a good hiking
 
               trail; at Otter Lake you always meet someone from Lynchburg.
Red Carpet Inn Lexington is a wonderful place to get some rest, and camping is available at Wildwood Campground. All through the warm months highs here at Otter Lake reach the 80's, and the night is fairly cooler of course, typically in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Otter Lake. You don’t have to go far from Otter Lake to observe the water at Otter Lake Dam.
Yep, outdoors fun things to do are in fact bountiful here at Otter Lake. Battery Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth checking out, and not far from Otter Lake you'll discover Cushaw Reservoir which is a striking lake.

Not great size untill Balcony falls, Run the falls from just river right of center to river left to avoid a sometimes hidden rock. Great place to surf. River left is a large boulder. if you padle up the eddy of this rock and then murge into the falls you can catch a great wave. Very short rapid so it is perfect for begginners looking to advance thie abilities. Very hard on a canoe....
