If you are in Nelson county it's always a good idea to stop by Nelson Lake. This lake is so wonderful. It's a nice idea to have a look at Bobs Creek, it's near Nelson Lake, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Tye River. Nelson Lake is a wet spot that gets lots of rain; October is when you get the most rain here; January on the other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful. The White Rock Gap Trail is a

| | glorious hiking trail near Nelson Lake, and if you come at the right time of year, Rucker Run offers some great whitewater. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Nelson Lake. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 40's, and night lows in the 10's for Nelson Lake. take a look at charming Nelson Lake; going for a hike on the Turkey Pen Ridge Trail is always a fine adventure. Payne Pond is a nearby lake that you could explore; brilliant skiing awaits you at Wintergreen. Dry warm beds await
you at Wintergreen Resort, and if you came to camp James River State Park is a fine location to do that. If you need a spot to stay Appomattox Super 8 Motel is a delightful choice. Nelson Dam is an interesting thing to check out,
and there is a magnificent hiking trail close by called the Mills Creek Trail. The vista of charming Diggs Mountain near Nelson Lake is wonderful. There's so much to do here at Nelson Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Lake Nelson Campground is a pleasant site for that.

 | 15 miles away Well me and my family have been going to Sharando Lake ever since I was born and we havn't gone anywhere else I love sherando and I can't wait to go back for another memorable camping weekend!...As close to perfect a camping experience as you can get: 1) Private, secluded, spacious campsites 2)access to flush toilets and showers, 3) a breathtakingly beautiful lake/swim area 4)hiking trails. WORD OF CAUTION: in-season, all sites are snapped up by Thurday noon for the weekend. Come on Sunday for best selection or before Thursday if you want a shot at a campsite. They don't take reservations (as of 8/2006) Wish they would so everyone could have a shot at a weekend camping trip there, not just the locals who can zip in and set a few camping chairs on the sites on Thursday to claim it for the weekend. ... |
