If you are in Russell county it's always a good idea to stop by Mountain Lake. Mountain Lake frequently gets lots of rainfall; through July this area sees the most rain while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. While you're here at Mountain Lake you will meet lots of folks from nearby Kingsport-Bristol, and if you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Dan Hall Mountain Resort & Country Club is in the vicinity. So much fun stuff

| | to do here at Mountain Lake, too great to be true. Roaring Branch is a stream that you may bump into while you're here; Mountain Lake is a fine place to visit for more than one day, Bark Campground is a fine place to camp nearby.
Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Mountain Lake. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Mountain Lake. A pleasant location for | |

spot close by. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Norton Super 8 Motel is a magnificent choice. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Best Western Of Wise is a great place to spend a night or two; Flatwoods Campground is a brilliant campground nearby.

This picture was submitted to me by Lynda Hubbard ( now retired ) of the Clinch Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service in Wise, Virginia; a few years ago. It is of the upper falls on Little Stony Creek. I have been doing climate research in this area of the great High Knob massif, for some 20 years. This is a high precipitation area on average. It should be understood that the High Knob massif forms a sprawling highcountry area along the Wise-Scott border ( into extreme NE Lee County ), and from base to base represents the widest mountain mass in all of southwestern Virginia. This great width impacts precipitation, with significant enhancements across the mid-upper elevations during favorable patterns ( unlike 2007 which has been the driest year on record with a general 40-46'' across the upper elevations so far ).... |
