Virginia has many beautiful lakes and Merrimac Lake is one of them. This lake is so wonderful. Go for a hike on the Broad Hollow Trail; get yourself into a kayak and hit Robinson River. During the summer months at Merrimac Lake highs are typically in the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. Through the winter the highs are frequently in the 40's with temperatures at Merrimac Lake dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Lakes are splendid;

here, and January on the other hand is the driest. After a long day outdoors Best Western Culpeper Inn is a pleasant place to spend a night or two, and get wet paddling on Hughes River and Hazel River.
Going for a hike on the
Sams Ridge Trail is always a delightful adventure, and if you need a spot to stay Culpeper Super 8 Motel is a perfect choice.
