The amount of rainfall that falls at Markham Pond is close to the national average; all through July this area sees the most rain; the driest month is January. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Flat Top Mountain Trail is always a nice adventure; you can stay the night at Colon Hollow Shelter Campground. Near Markham Pond you locate the Hunting Creek       Trail which is a good hiking trail. There's so much to do here at Markham Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Yogi Bear's Jellystone At Natural Bridge is a good place for that. The Terrapin Mountain Trail is a great hiking trail in the neighborhood of Markham Pond, and get yourself into a kayak and hit James River. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Markham Pond. Throughout the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 60's. Throughout the winter this                  place gets highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Markham Pond. This is a popular spot for folks from Lynchburg; there are some splendid whitewater spots on North Creek. After a long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Bedford/Roanoke Area is a nice site to spend a night or two, and there's always Markham Dam to have a look at in the neighborhood of Markham Pond. This place, Markham Pond, it simply has so much outdoors cool stuff.
