Pike Pond
 | 15 miles away I must say that there is no type of camping facilities at Pike Pond! This is a POND not a lake, it is a place to fish. To get to the pond, you travel a short distance via a gravel road. I have lived in the Alleghany County area for over 25 years and have never heard of one person to camp or swim at this pond.Karnes Creek is for the most part a dry creek bed that does not support any type of fishing or swimmming. If you dare to do whitewater paddling on the Jackson River, please be advised that a large paper mill is located on this river. The water above this mill is wonderful, but BEWARE! Many people who own land along the river that is not considered polluted think that they own the river itself!!! These people do know that they do not own the water but feel that they own the land that the water passes over...if you decide to navigate this water way make sure you stay in your boat and not touch the river bed. The Buckhorne Family Campground is a wonderful place to stay. This campground is a great place to do family camping.... |
