It's a nice idea to take a look at Jordan Run, it's close to Lake of the Pines, and unsurprisingly, this is a great vicinity for folks who like lakes, Big Pond is a lake nearby. No way I can stop, cause I'm havin' a great time here at Lake of the Pines. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Oak Tree Inn Low Moor, and whitewater paddling is tremendous on Back Creek - Jackson Tributary. If you fancy a little side journey, try Bluegrass Hollow,
and hiking is a popular thing to do around Lake of the Pines; Warm Springs Mountain Trail is a great local trail.
This lake is so wonderful. Lake of the Pines is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, Hidden Valley Campground is a magnificent local campground, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Piney Mountain Trail. If you need a spot to stay Americas Best Value Inn Covington is a wonderful choice. Lakes are nice; Lake Bacova is a lake that's

next to Lake of the Pines. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool things at Lake of the Pines. There's so much to do here at Lake of the Pines that you need to camp here for a while, Virginia Power is a splendid place for that; there's good hiking along the South Piney Mountain Trail.
The high level of precipitation makes Lake of the Pines a reasonably wet place; all through July this area sees the most rain, and December is the month with the least moisture. In case you don’t mind getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Jackson River, and the summit of Big Piney Mountain can be seen from Lake of the Pines. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Lake of the Pines, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Lake of the Pines.
You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at The Homestead if you're here, and an exciting thing to check out near Lake of the Pines is Golf and Farm Club Dam Aviation.

McClintic Point Primitive Campground
13 miles away
Great spot to settle into for a while. My little family camps there every year in june. Alot to do near the camp site. The best site is right on the lake, walk 15 feet to fish your heart out. Lots to do with the children.... Beautyful CLEAN swimming area and play ground just up the main road and showers available to clean them up at the end of the day. The best part about this site you can get the ''away from it all'' and still have access to a store, pay phone, and verry limited cell phone? service... enjoy!!? Mommy of 2 little 1s...

Pike Pond
17 miles away
I must say that there is no type of camping facilities at Pike Pond! This is a POND not a lake, it is a place to fish. To get to the pond, you travel a short distance via a gravel road. I have lived in the Alleghany County area for over 25 years and have never heard of one person to camp or swim at this pond.Karnes Creek is for the most part a dry creek bed that does not support any type of fishing or swimmming. If you dare to do whitewater paddling on the Jackson River, please be advised that a large paper mill is located on this river. The water above this mill is wonderful, but BEWARE! Many people who own land along the river that is not considered polluted think that they own the river itself!!! These people do know that they do not own the water but feel that they own the land that the water passes over...if you decide to navigate this water way make sure you stay in your boat and not touch the river bed. The Buckhorne Family Campground is a wonderful place to stay. This campground is a great place to do family camping....

Snowshoe
27 miles away
Snowshoe has the biggest elevation drop of any skiresort in the region which in my oppinion makes it a realtively great ski resort. You can get more skiing done before you have to get on the lift again. Which I think is very important in a ski resort....
