Go to Lake Royal if you want to go to a nice lake. For the period of the summer, highs mostly are in the 80's at Lake Royal. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Lake Royal. Get wet paddling on Pohick Creek; if you've had enough of Lake Royal, Lake Barton is nearby. And if you're still looking for more outdoors amusing stuff just keep reading.

| | Lake Royal gets a normal amount of rainfall; most of the rain falls throughout May, and January is when it's the driest. Take a little visit to Opossum Branch while you're here at Lake Royal, and camping at Hillwood Camping Park is always a great experience. Holiday Inn Express FAIRFAX - ARLINGTON BOULEVARD is a wonderful spot to get some rest, and at Pohick Creek Dam Number Seven near Lake Royal there are some interesting things to see.

enough, there's loads more to do in close proximity to Lake Royal. Hiking along the Potomac Heritage Trail is pleasant fun, and paddling on Accotink Creek is so much fun. Fort Washington Park is a glorious location right next door
to Lake Royal, and playing golf is lots of fun at Burke Lake Park Golf Course. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a spot to stay The Bailiwick Inn is a nice choice, and going for a hike along the Meadow Trail will let you absorb
the natural beauty of this area.
This lake is so wonderful. If you came to camp Burke Lake Park is a fine place to do that, and Lake Royal is not the only site nearby, Lake Braddock is a nearby lake. At Lake Royal you always meet someone from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, and Lake Royal is right by the Gold Mine Trail.

Pohick Creek
| ...n from the sub division noted in AWA write-up. The whole run from Hooves to bridge at Route 1 took me 2 hours of paddling straight, no playing. 40 mins of that was in the dark or near dark. Nice and worth while run if you have the time. 3 mandatory portages in first 2 miles from Hooves to valley area behind Rolling Road subdivision due to down trees. If you're short on time, just put on by the walk way down to the creek from that neighborhood (can't remember the street) off Rolling road. That's where the fun rock garden area is. Easy section and really fun creek type section where all the gradient drop off is. Great area to practice beginner creek style running. Next run will be South run of the Pohick when it comes back up. I looked at it yesterday too and thought it was runable but higher than 220 would be better, I'm guessing 250 -275 cfs. I pretty sure Pohick will not be runable today. The great thing about the run is there are huge sections were you never know you're in a urban/suburban surroundings. Take out on right side of bridge at route 1. If you get the chance do it.
