Big Reed Island Creek
From the road that parallels a few miles of the lower section of Big Reed Island Creek, I think it's Rock Creek Rd. Or Rt. 694 ?? I've viewed some rapids that I think are about 8 miles above the junction with the new River. These rapids appear to be grade III to me, with a lot of large bolders. This appears to be somewhat dangerous to me but I'm a novice kayaker. Any comments about this section or suggestons?...
New River Junction Campground
15 miles away People are friendly and accommodating, great fishing, tubing and canoeing, but the New River has railroad tracks running along both sides of the river. Be aware that you are camping 20 yards from an active train track!...
Fox Trail Campground
16 miles away Fox Trail Campground has converted into the Fancy Gap KOA. It now has a pool, cable, and wifi....
Carrollwood Campground
17 miles away My family and I stopped at Carrollwood Campground for a weekend while traveling back home after spending the winter in FL. The owners were extremely friendly - John and Jenny. They even walked us to our site and helped us with the hook-ups. The fishing lakes are filled with many big fish. While we were there, a fisherman caught a catfish that weighed in at 32 lbs! The atmosphere is very peaceful and the grounds are kept neat. It's truly a beautiful place to visit! Thanks John and Jenny for a wonderful trip!...
Hoge Pond
18 miles away Yes, Harvey; Hoge Pond is on private property. It is a beautiful lake cradled by the rolling hills outside Blacksburg. A small residence sits on the shoreline. ...Can anyone tell me how to get to Hoge Pond. Is there somewhere you can park and hike to it? I've tried Walnut Springs with no luck. Thanks for your help!...
