Lake Moomaw is always a pleasure to visit. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Hemlock Trail; the skiing at Snowshoe is tremendous. Some nearby water includes Big Lick Creek; the Coles Mountain Fire Trail offers hiking at its best. All the outdoors enjoyable stuff near Lake Moomaw will keep you coming back time and again.
Bolar Draft is a good location to spend some time at, and there are some fine whitewater spots on Back Creek - Jackson Tributary.

you'll hit upon Lake Sherwood which is a beautiful lake, and Lake Moomaw is right by the Little Mountain Trail. Lake Moomaw is a wet place that gets a great deal of precipitation; most of the rain falls during July; February on the
other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful. A great close by hotel is Best Western Mountain View, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Jackson River.
All through the warmest time of the year at Lake Moomaw temperatures
are regularly in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's; overnight lows in the 10's for Lake Moomaw. A good spot to camp here at Lake
Moomaw is Bolar Mountain Campground, and you can take a little visit to Gathright Dam since you're here at Lake Moomaw.
