Carrollwood Campground
My family and I stopped at Carrollwood Campground for a weekend while traveling back home after spending the winter in FL. The owners were extremely friendly - John and Jenny. They even walked us to our site and helped us with the hook-ups. The fishing lakes are filled with many big fish. While we were there, a fisherman caught a catfish that weighed in at 32 lbs! The atmosphere is very peaceful and the grounds are kept neat. It's truly a beautiful place to visit! Thanks John and Jenny for a wonderful trip!...

Big Reed Island Creek
14 miles away From the road that parallels a few miles of the lower section of Big Reed Island Creek, I think it's Rock Creek Rd. Or Rt. 694 ?? I've viewed some rapids that I think are about 8 miles above the junction with the new River. These rapids appear to be grade III to me, with a lot of large bolders. This appears to be somewhat dangerous to me but I'm a novice kayaker. Any comments about this section or suggestons?...
Deer Trail Park and Campground
19 miles away Deer Campground is the BEST local campground !!! It is wonderful experience, there are so many travelers and even the local people have found a wonderful and peaceful place to retreat for the weekend, we really enjoy the Martin's (owners) friendship, campfires, and the homemade ice cream shared over the summer. Thanks so much The Atkins Gang ...The campground has completely been renovated and is absolutely gorgeous! The bath house is like new, the pool has been resurfaced and is like new and everything is just perfect in this wonderful camp. The new owners obviously put their hearts and souls into all the renovations and they are wounderfully kind and welcoming!!! WE just couldn't believe the gorgeous trails for hiking and horse back riding, the hay rides for the kids, and all the wonderful things to do in and around Wytheville. Its a paradise for sure and we will definitely be going back! WE rate this campground a ***** 5-star experience!...
