This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Roanoke-Days Inn Civic Center/Downtown is a great choice, and hiking along the Hammond Hollow Trail is magnificent fun. Summertime at Hickory Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer night lows sink down to the 60's. Through the winter the highs are typically in the 40's with temperatures at Hickory Lake dipping       down into the 20's during winter nights. There's just no way someone can get bored here at Hickory Lake. Take a hike on the Spec Mines Trail; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Jennings Creek. The amount of rainfall that falls at Hickory Lake is close to the national average; August is the wettest month with most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes are delightful;                  Holdrens Pond is a lake that's next to Hickory Lake, and a golf course close by is Sycamore Ridge Golf Club. One of the governing traits of the surroundings of Hickory Lake is Buck and Doe Mountain, and if you come at the right time of year, Catawba Creek offers some great whitewater. This is a popular location for people from Roanoke. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Hickory Lake has to offer, you can camp at Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina. Visiting Booker T Washington National Monument is just something you need to do if you haven't yet, and Hickory Lake is right by the Curry Creek Trail. Be careful coming to Hickory Lake, you might not ever want to return home again. Falling Creek is a tremendous local stream. There's so much to do here at Hickory Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Camp Virginia Jaycee is a good location for that.
