People from Roanoke love to come to Hickory Lake, and Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina is a magnificent local campground. A round of golf at nearby Sycamore Ridge Golf Club is a perfect way to kill some time; if the weather is great, you can go for a hike along the Hammond Hollow Trail. This lake is so wonderful. A visit to Booker T Washington National Monument is recommended; get your       heart pumping on the tremendous whitewater of Jennings Creek. Throughout the summertime months at Hickory Lake temperatures are usually in the 80's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Hickory Lake. An average amount of rain falls at Hickory Lake; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain while January is the month with                  the least amount of precipitation. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Catawba Creek, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Spec Mines Trail.
